Himachal Pradesh tourists asked to stay off rivers

SHIMLA: With the onset of monsoon and rivers in spate, the Himachal Pradesh government has warned tourists against venturing near the rapids. It’s raining landslides amid a warning for heavy showers in the next four days. Kinnaur fights flash floods, while the Yamuna, Bata, and Giri have swelled in Sirmaur district after three days of downpour.

The state is on yellow weather alert for Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, and on orange alert for Tuesday. People should be ready for disruption of water and electricity supply, besides communication. More landslides are possible. Heavy rain in the high hills of Kinnaur has caused the Seringche Nullah to damage private property in many villagers of Batseri panchayat in Kinnaur district. There has also been soil erosion and damage to apple trees. The Kangra-Shimla highway was shut for hours.
