MANALI: A woman and her son, who had reached Manali on Tuesday with family from Delhi, drowned in the Beas at Bahang village on the Rohtang highway after slipping into the river off a boulder while clicking pictures.
A youth, Ravi, who works in a private hotel next to the scene of accident, jumped into the river to rescue them but got injured because the water was too rapid. An alert from the hotel moved police and ambulance to the spot. The bodies were recovered about 3 km downstream. Kullu SP Gurdev Chand Sharma said: “The victims—Priti Bhaseen, 37, and her son, Rehan, 12—had come from Delhi on Tuesday for a family holiday. Their bodies were moved to the mortuary for autopsy.”
