Himachal Pradesh: Kaza gets electric vehicle charging station

MANALI: Tourists can now visit Spiti valley of Himachal Pradesh in their electric vehicles as Kaza, at an altitude of 12,270ft, has received the world’s highest charging point on Thursday.

The goEgo Network, a Pune-based startup, has established an electric vehicle charging station at Kaza that was inaugurated by Kaza sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Mahendra Pratap Singh on Thursday. It is claimed to be the highest electric vehicle charging point. Two people from the company also rode two electric Scooty from Manali to Kaza. The officials said they did not have any problem and had to charge the Scooty three times midway. If the trial works, the company aims to establish more such charging points in the region.

The SDM thanked the company for the station and said it will motivate many people to go with electric vehicles. “The mountains are ecologically fragile. Electric vehicles are the future that can help reduce carbon emission. Tourists will also get to drive electrical vehicles to Spiti,” he said.
