Himachal Pradesh: Live grenade recovered along highway in Kangra's Damtal; destroyed safely by Army

SHIMLA: Recovery of a live grenade along the national highway at Damtal in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh created panic in the area on Friday.

Police immediately cordoned off the area to avoid any mishap.

Later with the help of the Army, they managed to destroy it safely.

It is being said that the grenade was buried under the ground for the last many years and it came out after the soil was washed away in the flood.

This is not the first time when such a recovery has been made in the area as a couple of years back also a grenade was found in the area.

Kangra superintendent of police Khushal Sharma said that after receiving information about the grenade lying near the Pathankot-Damtal-Jalandhar national highway, the area was barricaded and the Army was also informed.

He said that he himself along with other officials visited the spot.

He said that Bomb Disposal Squad of the Army has destroyed the grenade.

“The investigation of the spot revealed that the grenade was buried under the ground for quite some time and came out in the flood as soil was washed away,” he said.

A case has also been registered at Damtal police station.
