Himachal Pradesh: Congress questions silence of PM Modi on Old Pension Scheme

SHIMLA: In the assembly elections, Old Pension Scheme (OPS) is going to be a major poll issue in Himachal Pradesh as over 1.15 lakh employees are demanding it for a long time.

Opposition Congress has already promised to provide OPS within 10 days of coming to power while ruling BJP so far has maintained a silence on this issue. After Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his Bilaspur rally on Wednesday did not give any assurance to the employees for the implementation of OPS, Congress has now questioned the silence of Prime Minister and BJP.

Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee media department chairman Naresh Chauhan said that Prime Minister during his Bilaspur rally said nothing on the old pension scheme and this has left lakhs of employees of the state disappointed.

He said that said that lakhs of employees who were agitating for the demand of old pension scheme had pinned high hopes from the visit of Prime Minister to Himachal Pradesh, but the Prime Minister did not say anything.

He said that the OPS was scrapped during the BJP government at the Centre. He said that in the interest of the employees of every state, the Central Government should take a decision to implement the OPS. He said that neither chief minister Jai Ram Thakur is saying anything nor Prime Minister Narendra Modi said anything regarding the demand of the employees which proves BJP's double engine government is anti-employee.

Employees who are agitating for a long time to demand OPS, have launched “NPS Chhodo” (leave NPS) campaign from October 2. They have demanded that if the old pension scheme is not restored soon, then there will be bigger agitations by the organization for the restoration of old pension. They warned that this time the employee will give vote only for the restoration of old pension.
