Himachal Pradesh: Congress accuses BJP of misleading Hattee community

SHIMLA: Congress has accused the BJP of misleading the Hattee community in the name of providing scheduled tribe status in Himachal Pradesh.

AICC spokesperson Alka Lamba said that Union home minister Amit Shah has come to Sirmaur district on Saturday to mislead the Hattee community, despite the model code of conduct for elections. She said that if the intention of the Central Government was clear, then the announcement of giving tribal status to Hatttee would not have stopped till the cabinet meeting. She said that this decision of the Central Government is only an attempt to "dissolve social poison" between the two communities.

While addressing media persons in Shimla on Saturday, Alka Lamba said that chief minister Jai Ram Thakur led government is now a guest for a few days and even on the last day of the government, the CM, seeing his defeat, took such decisions in the cabinet meeting which the state government could not do in the last five years. She said that the people of the state would vote against the indifferent attitude of the government on these issues and the BJP government would be overthrown.

Expressing apprehension, the Congress spokesperson said that the ruling party BJP, which is in power at the Center, may misuse the government machinery in the elections, which is a matter of concern. She said that it has been seen during the elections in the past that the ED and CBI were misused by the BJP to disrupt the fair election process and this can happen in Himachal also.

She requested the Election Commission to ensure the responsibility of conducting the elections in a fair manner and stop the interference of ED and CBI.

She said that on November 12, all the 68 assembly seats will go to polls in a single phase in Himachal Pradesh and the result will be declared on December 8. She said that the gap of so many days in the results is a matter of concern as the election results should come three or four days after the polls.

She said that last time the election dates of all the five states were announced simultaneously, then why was the election date not declared in Gujarat.
