Hilton Valentine's daughter pays touching tribute to The Animals star

The daughter of Hilton Valentine has paid tribute to The Animals star in a touching tribute.

Samantha Valentine Simmons shared a heartfelt message on Instagram in which she said she will always remember the times they shared together.

News of the death on Friday of the guitarist - renowned for his work in the iconic Newcastle band on the likes of number one hit House of the Rising Sun - came just ahead of her birthday.

Samantha, who years ago played bass guitar in all-female quartet Ipso Facto and later joined rock band Romance for a time, turns 34 this Sunday.

She posted a photograph of her dad on her Instagram account, showing him playing guitar in his early days, and she wrote: "Night, dad. I lost you a long time ago, but will always remember times that were just ours.

"They can't be taken away, or tainted."

Samantha, who was brought up in the Forest Hall area of Newcastle but now lives in London, signed off with the words: "Love you Sleep tight."

Hilton Valentine was 77 when he died and news of his death brought tributes flooding in on social media, with fans calling him a 'real music legend' and a "one of a kind guitarist".

Eric Burdon, lead singer of The Animals, himself wrote a tribute on Instagram saying: "The opening opus of Rising Sun will never sound the same!... You didn’t just play it, you lived it!

"Heartbroken by the sudden news of Hilton’s passing. We had great times together, Geordie lad. From the North Shields to the entire world...Rock In Peace."
