Hilton Honors Bonus Offer Worth $780 Plus Free Night

Three people, husband and wife together in hotel room on bed with their little daughter, they are on vacation.

Hilton Honors American Express cards are some of the latest rewards credit cards to offer enticing bonuses for new cardholders. As of May 23, this offer just got better with the addition of a free night.

Here's the deal. Get a Hilton Honors American Express Surpass® Card, and you can earn 130,000 Hilton Honors Bonus Points after spending $3,000 in purchases in your first six months. Plus, you get a free night's stay at a Hilton property. You also get up to $200 annually in credits for hotel expenses. That’s a total value of up to $980 in the first year (not including the free night), more than offsetting the $150 annual fee. This offer ends 7/31/2024. Terms apply. See rates and fees.

If you are or will soon become a Hilton Honors member, an additional promotion is worth the moment it takes to register for it. For stays booked for May 2, 2024, through September 1, 2024, get double the points for each stay at a Hilton Property by registering at the promotion website.

Rewards cards dos and dont's

As with any rewards credit card, be sure to weigh these benefits against fees — a $150 annual fee in this case — and make sure you understand how to use the card effectively. That said, $150 may be more than offset by those maxing out the benefits.

In addition, while reward credit cards are great if you use them wisely, always pay them off in full and on time each month to avoid interest, which can dwarf any rewards you earn. Don't change your spending habits to earn extra points. That's a slippery slope that can lead to overspending.

If this is your first foray into credit cards, or you just want a refresher, make sure you know how to choose a credit card. And ensure you are familiar with what counts as a good credit score
