Hilltop gothic castle for sale but it needs some repairs

A huge Gothic style castle has come on the market that's being described as the ultimate fixer-upper.

The 'impressive' Welsh castle, is found in Conwy, just over an hours drive away from Liverpool. Built in 1981, the Grade II listed villa, is based on a 2.6 acre estate on Sychnant Pass Road which overlooks the historic town and Snowdonia peaks.

Boasting 26 bedrooms, it's listed for sale with Dafydd Hardy estate agents for £1,250,000. The castle does not stand alone, however, for the listing also includes two further separate properties on the grounds that come with it.

Named Bryn Corach, the main castle features a turret, croquet lawn and castle wall surrounding the garden. Beyond the main residence is a former lodge house and a significant detached three-story accommodation block.

The estate agent says the building is "in need of some repair and upgrading works, offers potential for conversion to holiday apartments or a lucrative holiday letting business." However, those not looking for an investment opportunity could move onto the estate.

Planning permission is also already in place to demolish the existing modern accommodation and reinstate the site to a family home. There is also a detached former lodge house, although in need of renovation, which would easily provide a self-contained studio apartment.

The original structure of Bryn Corach House is listed for its social historical interest as a hotel and for its ''special architectural interest and definite character." Despite needing renovations, the inside matches the grand exterior, with high coved ceilings, open fireplaces and French windows that convey a period style hard to replicate.

Renovation works have commenced on Bryn Corach and it now offers enormous potential through completion of works to provide a beautiful, detached family home together with an "exciting business opportunity."

The listing reads: "Bryn Corach is a certainly not your average property, positioned in what must be one of the best locations in Conwy, occupying a spectacular elevated stance overlooking the historic walled town of Conwy affording spectacular sweeping views over the Conwy River, Conwy’s magnificent 13th century castle built by Edward I (in a barely believable four years!) and uninterrupted southerly views towards the Vale of Conwy and the high peaks of Snowdonia - there’s simply nowhere quite like it."
