AT least seven Hunter government schools will be closed for contact tracing and cleaning on Tuesday, while others will reopen.

The Department of Education said Anna Bay, Hillsborough, Shortland, Tea Gardens and Windale public schools, as well as Stanford Merthyr Infants Schools would be closed on Tuesday after a member of their communities tested positive for COVID-19.

St Patrick's Primary in Cessnock is also closed on Tuesday after a positive case in the school community.

Hunter Sports High and Eleebana Public School, which were closed on Monday, remain non-operational.

As reported yesterday, St Paul's Primary School at Rutherford and and All Saints College Maitland St Peter's Campus are also closed today for contact tracing and cleaning.

"All staff and students are asked to self-isolate and follow the NSW Health advice and protocols," the department said.

"NSW Health has requested anyone who has been unwell or if you develop any symptoms such as a fever, cough, sore throat, shortness of breath, runny nose, loss of smell/taste, muscle/joint pains, diarrhoea, nausea/vomiting or extreme tiredness to be tested at one of the COVID-19 testing clinics."

It said Newcastle Junior School, Maitland Grossmann High, Jewells Public School and Soliders Point Public School would reopen on Tuesday.

"Students and staff identified as close contacts have been notified and asked to self-isolate for the required period and follow the NSW health advice and protocols."
