Hillary Clinton to deliver Hunter College commencement

NEW YORK _ Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will deliver the commencement speech at Hunter College's 2019 graduation ceremony on May 29, Hunter officials said Monday.

In addition to addressing Hunter grads at the upcoming ceremony at Madison Square Garden, the former Democratic presidential nominee and first lady will also receive the college's inaugural Eleanor Roosevelt Distinguished Leadership Award.

Hunter College President Jennifer Raab said Clinton has earned the award for her remarkable achievements in public service _ and those achievements will inspire Hunter grads to do their best.

"For more than a generation, she has been at the forefront of progressive change, including change for women, which is an essential part of Hunter's history," Raab said of Clinton. "I'm confident she will be a messenger of inspiration and hope for our students."

Hunter's graduation ceremony hasn't been held at Madison Square Garden in decades. Approximately 4,000 Hunter College students will receive degrees this spring, with most expected to attend the event.

Reps for Clinton didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
