Hillary Clinton made condolence call to Geraldine ‘Jerre’ McPartlin days before she died

Chicago labor organizing legend Geraldine “Jerre” McPartlin died Wednesday. | Brian McPartlin

A labor of love . . .

Sneed has learned Hillary Clinton quietly phoned a dying friend shortly before leaving Chicago after an event Monday.

“Hillary asked about my mother, a Chicago labor union trailblazer,” said Brian McPartlin, a longtime advance man for the Clintons and Joe Biden.

“I had just come from putting my mom in hospice the night before, and the only reason I was there was because mom insisted I be there for Hillary.”

On Wednesday McPartlin’s mother, Geraldine Jerre” McPartlin, who became the first woman in history elected to the Chicago Federation of Labor’s board as its first vice president, died.

“Mom also had 12 children ... and used to joke she knew something about labor,” McPartlin chuckled.

“So Hillary called her immediately and said: ‘I just want you to know I’m thinking of you. I’m sending my love and hugs.’ ”

On Wednesday night, presidential candidate Biden called McPartlin to express his condolences. “He (Biden) always referred to her as ‘mom’ and the ‘queen of Chicago,’ a woman who he felt reminded him of his own gutsy mother.”
