Hill in hospital, sex trial delayed

CHARGED: Brett David Hill was taken to hospital, delaying his trial.

BRETT Hill - the man who kidnapped and sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl at Adamstown Heights last year - was taken to hospital in Sydney on Sunday night, delaying the start of his trial in Newcastle District Court on Monday.

The reason for Hill's admission at Westmead Hospital remained unclea.

But Crown prosecutor Lee Carr, SC, said the 48-year-old had been discharged by Monday.

However, Hill had not been brought to court to face the first day of his trial on kidnapping and child sexual assault charges.

Judge Roy Ellis adjourned the matter to Tuesday, when it is expected to commence before a judge-alone.

Hill has pleaded guilty to detaining the girl as she was walking through Hudson Park about 9.15am on June 12, 2018 and sexually assaulting her a number of times, including at an unknown bush location.

But he has pleaded not guilty to a number of other serious sexual assault allegations stemming from the five-hour abduction of the girl, which will be the subject of the trial.
