Hilarious Tik Tok trend shows how Edinburgh University transforms students into 'yahs'

Edinburgh University students are often stereotyped for their posh accents, including replacing vowels with a 'yah' sound.

They are also known for their love of trendy clothes, fancy student flats, and having an affinity for money.

In fact, recently a group of university students went viral for all the wrong reasons after making a video of things that "just make sense" in an Edinburgh student flat - which included hummus, chandeliers and plate warmers.

But according to a new Tik Tok trend, students who attend Edinburgh University don't always start out like this and it takes at least a year to fully adopt the new accent and dress sense.

The trend was started by Tik Tok user and Edinburgh University student Harriet Matthews who recorded a video with her take on all the different stages you have to go through before fully developing the 'yah' accent.

According to the student, day one at Edinburgh University starts with your own accent and sense of style, but within a week, everything starts to change.

Within a month you have a completely different accent and a fur coat (of course) and within a year you are pronouncing it 'Edinbraah' University.

The hilarious Tik Tok has gained 1.8 million views which have led to other people joining in with their own take on the video.
