Hilarious Morning Ireland skit makes it onto the RTE Radio One show

Comedian Killian Sundermann had a very meta moment this morning when a viral sketch he performed about Morning Ireland was actually played on the RTE show.

The 27-year-old video editor from Dublin created the clip in July last year.

In the short he jumps out of bed and turns on Morning Ireland to catch the news which becomes increasingly bleak and depressing as he listens.

It went viral across Twitter, Instagram, and Tik Tok and inspired him to create reactionary videos about lockdown, whether it be Leo Varadkar's speedy speech or the various levels of Covid management.

It’s gained him a multitude of fans, including pop twins Jedward who slipped into his DM’s to say: “You are so funny keep rocking it legend.”

And today Morning Ireland finally acknowledged the much loved clip that had kick started his comedy career. He was interviewed for a segment about new outlets for comedy hosted by reporter Moira Hannon and they opened the piece with part of his iconic sketch.

When asked why he thought it was so successful he said: “I think it touched a nerve with people because we were all just listening to the news and it was worse and worse and everything was getting cancelled.

“All these bad things were happening and I think maybe people were eventually seeing that it was good to make a little it of fun with that, and maybe we could see the funny side of it. Maybe it might be easier to go with that.”

Thanks to the success of the sketches he revealed that he’s “spending more and more of my time focusing on comedy,” adding, “It’s not quite my full time job yet but I would love for it to get there someday.”

Killian’s sketches are available on all is social media accounts.
