Hilarious moment man sails across Glasgow river fuelled by Irn Bru

It's true what they say, everybody needs good neighbours.

Wendy McGarrity proved she's exactly that when she helped an amateur sailor find his sea legs in Glasgow yesterday.

As people up and down the country filled up paddling pools to deal with the sweltering temperatures, one quick-thinking city dweller decided to cool down by hitting the River Cart with a dinghy.

Always willing to help a fellow local in need, Wendy stepped in to make sure he was prepared for his epic voyage across the south side of the city.

Providing him with a hand pump to get his vessel water worthy, she then came up with the right fuel for any Scot embarking on a major journey, a can of Irn Bru, of course.

Wendy told the Daily Record: "He appeared on the river bank with his new boat still in its box.

"I gave him a hand pump to blow his wee boat up and a can of bru for his epic journey!"

After waving the mystery man off on his dinghy, Wendy posted video the warmhearted encounter on Facebook, much to the delight of local residents.

Entitling the clip 'Young chap sailing from Cathcart to Shawlands!' she revealed the star of the film told her he enjoys spending time on the river because it "makes him happy".

And who can argue with that!
