While online dating was once seen as a last resort, it’s now a common way that many people meet their other half.
Now, dating app Plenty of Fish has revealed 11 hilarious new dating terms for 2021, including Tok-blocking and Barnard Castling.
Shannon Smith, Relationship and dating expert for Plenty of Fish said: “This year has brought about some major shake-ups in how people date, and with that shift comes new trends that singles are experiencing - many of them brand new.”
Plenty of Fish came up with the terms based on a survey of over 3,000 members.
Here’s a look at the dating trends to expect in 2021, as we prepare to wave goodbye to 2020.
Connell-vision - Named after Normal People’s heartthrob, Connell, Connell-vision is fancying someone based on their fashion sense.
Apocalypsihng - Treating every relationship like it’s your last
Twice Baked - When someone’s chat is twice baked and you have the same repetitive boring COVID convos (from sourdough to banana bread)
Baby Zoomers - The new ‘generation’ of babies conceived during lockdown
Barnard-castling - Getting caught out by your partner for using outlandish excuses
Sanitising - Erasing every photo of an ex from social media after a break-up
Hey&Pray - When someone reaches out to you on dating apps and only uses the simple “hey” “hey watsup” “hey you” “hey...”
Wally-ing - When someone only posts group photos on their dating profile, making it difficult for others to determine who they are and what they look like
Proofing - Giving a relationship time to breathe and not rushing into it
Folklore-ing - Being so focused on a fairytale romance that expectations don’t match reality
Tok-blocking - Watching TikTok so much that it interferes with your dating life
