Missing North Qld hiker found

Queensland State Emergency Service volunteers have located a 36-year-old woman who has been missing for four days in a north Queensland national park.

Police say Juliana Castrillon, who was last seen hiking away from Cedar Bay towards Home Rule in the Ngalba Bulal National Park, south of Cooktown, on Saturday morning, was found by SES volunteers on Wednesday.

She is being walked to Home Rule where she will be medically assessed.

Police thanked the volunteers, community, public and media for their assistance.

Her family began the journey to north Queensland on Wednesday to assist in the search after Ms Castrillon set off on a 14-kilometre track towards Home Rule without water or supplies.

Home Rule is part of the Northwest Tropics World Heritage Area and features extensive rainforests and waterfalls.

The ground search was launched after a two-day aerial search failed to find any trace of the Columbian national.
