An elderly hiker has spent a third night in the wilderness on Queensland's Fraser Island, with a police search for her resuming at first light.

Madeleine Nowak, 73, was last seen on Thursday afternoon on the island's Great Walk.

She was on an organised tour with friends when she became separated from the group.

A land, air and sea search and rescue commenced on Thursday evening and continued throughout Friday and Saturday.

Ms Nowak, who has previous trail walking experience, had clothing and a small amount of food and water with her at the time of her disappearance.

Police have requested anyone who may be visiting Fraser Island this weekend to keep an eye out for her as concerns mount for her welfare.
