Some colleges still shut

Pre-university and degree colleges in Karnataka, which had closed after the row over dress code took a violent turn on some campuses, reopened on Wednesday with high security in sensitive areas. However, some colleges which had earlier witnessed violence over dress code, continued to remain shut, while there were protests in some other places when hijab-clad girls were not allowed into classes.

Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Pre-University in Udupi district, which had earlier witnessed tension, continued to remain closed. In Shivamogga district, three government-run colleges — two in Shivamogga town and one in Sagar — which had witnessed incidents over dress code last week, also continued to remain shut. Moorusavir Mutt (SJMV) College for Women in Hubballi closed for the day after some tension over girls in hijab not being allowed inside on Wednesday.

In Bengaluru, most colleges reopened with police security deployed around colleges with no untoward incidents, barring a minor protest in a Malleswaram college. Degree colleges, which have no uniform, had many students wearing hijab attending classes as usual.
