Highways England issues travel warning due to heavy fog

Highways England have warned drivers to be careful on the roads this morning (December 30) due to thick fog patches which have formed overnight across the city.

The agency have said that drivers may expect sudden instances of decreased visibility.

BBC weather have also warned of early mist, fog and low cloud. However, this is expected to lift this afternoon and bring sunny spells for the rest of the day.

Highways England tweeted the following about the fog patches: "Please be aware there are thick fog patches throughout the region this morning and you may experience sudden instances of decreased visibility.

"Please take caution while travelling and make sure to leave plenty of room for braking."

The fog is only expected to affect the city this morning.

Whilst the Met Office haven't released a weather warning regarding the thick fog patches, drivers are advised to drive safely in the weather conditions.
