An driver caught travelling at 162km/h in an unregistered car on the Monaro Highway at Billilingra, between Bredbo and Cooma, on Thursday was found to have accumulated 19 demerit point offences over the past 10 months.

NSW Highway Patrol pulled the white Mitsubishi Magna over at 1.50pm as it was being driven 62km/h over the posted speed limit. Police said the Magna's speed was increasing before they directed the driver to stop.

The driver produced an overseas drivers licence, which upon investigation was found to have been withdrawn due to the excessive number of demerit point offences against it.

The driver was issued with a Future Court Attendance Notice and directed to appear before the Cooma Local Court.

He will be charged with driving with visiting driver privileges withdrawn, driving at a speed dangerous, exceed speed over 45km/h, and using an unregistered vehicle.
