A MILLION-dollar spend on resurfacing Hunter roads will deliver "a shot in the arm" to the Hunter as it recovers from the economic symptoms of coronavirus, the state government says.
Minister for Regional Roads and Transport Paul Toole said on Thursday that a statewide fast-track for road projects meant several upgrades to the region's roads were underway, with more in the planning stages.
The Hunter projects listed on Transport for NSW's breakdown of where the money will go include resurfacing of sections of the Golden and New England Highways near Merriwa and Denman.
The Newcastle portion comprises $800,00 for concrete medians on Newcastle Road, which is underway, and $1.8 million for road resurfacing.
The stimulus also includes $300,000 for upgrades to the Bridge and St James Road intersection at New Lambton, primarily new line markings, and $300,000 on landscaping for Swansea's main roundabout.
Several of the projects are underway, with Transport for NSW enlisting City of Newcastle to undertake much of the work.
Across the regions, weve accelerated $100 million of big and small projects projects that will help deliver safer, smoother and more reliable journeys for local communities right across the State, Mr Toole said.
More than 70 projects have already kicked off or will in the next few weeks, with more projects being assessed for the next financial year.
