A MAN has been arrested after a police pursuit that began near the Liddell power station and ended with a collision with an oncoming truck.
Newcastle-Hunter Traffic and Highway Patrol officers located a white Holden Commodore about five kilometres north of the upper Hunter power station shortly before 7am after reports of a similar vehicle heading north and being driven in a dangerous manner.
Police said they were told the vehicle had been crossing onto the wrong side of the road.
Officers began pursuing the vehicle before it allegedly lost control and hit a B-double truck heading south.
The Commodore's driver, 30, was taken to Muswellbrook Hospital under police guard.
He suffered minor injuries and will undergo mandatory blood and urine testing.
Paramedics treated the truck's driver, a 28-year-old man, at the scene for minor injuries.
Inquiries are ongoing and drivers are urged to check for traffic updates after the highway was closed in the aftermath of the crash.
Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
