Highly-rated Salford restaurant hit with one-star hygiene rating

A highly-rated Indian restaurant in Salford has been hit with a low food hygiene score.

The Purple Lounge, in Walkden , was handed a one-star rating following its latest inspection on January 15.

The score, given by Salford City Council , means “major improvement necessary”.

Bosses at the Ellesmere Retail Park restaurant have been told to make improvements to their management of food safety.

This means making sure systems are in check to ensure that the food sold is safe enough to eat.

Other categories in the report, including hygienic food handling and cleanliness of the building, were found to be “generally satisfactory”.

The restaurant holds a 4.4 star rating on Google and scored a hygiene rating of five in its previous inspection in November 2017.

Owner Azid Miah said inspectors revisited the premises shortly after the assessment and said they were satisfied with the cleanliness of the kitchen.

He said: “They came in on the 15th and came back after 10 days but we didn’t get the paperwork ready.

“We have had someone come in and train us and explain how things work.

“We did a test with the papers. We’re waiting for our certificates.

“We are just waiting for the inspector to come back, it’s just the paperwork that’s not been done.

“We are fully ready for the health officer to come now.”
