Rangers have confirmed that highly-rated academy midfielder Luca Rankin has signed his first professional contract with the club.

The 16-year-old, who celebrated his birthday last month, has agreed a deal running until the summer of 2029 as the Ibrox side continue to secure the futures of their top young talents.

Rankin featured regularly for both the Under-17s and Under-19s last season, helping each side to league title success, and has also earned international recognition with Scotland at Under-16 level.

Interest in the midfielder had been noted from elsewhere, but Rangers have moved to tie him down amid growing attention around their 2010-born cohort.

Interim Head of Academy David McCallum welcomed the deal, highlighting both the player’s development and the club’s pathway. He said: “We are thrilled that Luca has signed his first professional contract at the club.

"The interest in Luca from elsewhere has been well-documented, as has been the case for several of our 2010-born age group this year, but he believes in the opportunities that exist here, and his decision reflects the clear pathway we provide for young players.

“Luca has taken every challenge in his stride throughout his time in the academy, and he will be supported and challenged every step of the way by the fantastic staff we have here at the club.”
