Highly-rated Hearts youngster makes League Two switch as teenage stopper set for relegation fight

Hearts youngster Harry Stone has joined League Two side Albion Rovers on a loan deal until the end of the season, the Tynecastle club has confirmed.

The teenager is highly-rated at Riccarton and had been tipped as a future number before the first of two short-term moves earlier this season.

The 19-year-old was described as a “credit to the club” after keeping a clean sheet on his Stirling Albion debut when he inked an emergency move to Forthbank in October - shortly before signing a new deal tying him to the club until 2023.

Stone also previously spent time at Spartans in the Lowland League and will link up with former Hearts favourite Ryan Stevenson after the veteran forward joined the Cliftonhill outfit last week.

The Wee Rovers are second-bottom of the fourth tier and have ten games to save themselves from the SPFL relegation play off in May after League One and Two clubs voted to play out a truncated 18-game campaign.

Rovers lost first-choice keeper Ryan Goodfellow to Edinburgh City in January.

Stone has trained with Robbie Neilson's first team, where he worked with the likes of Craig Gordon.

Manager Brian Reid told the club's website : "Harry is someone we have been chasing for a period of time, he is highly thought of at Hearts and as such, they were keen to hold onto him until the situation for the lower leagues became a bit clearer.

“We needed another goalkeeper after Ryan’s departure, but I felt it was important to get someone in with real quality and with Harry we have got that, he’s vocal and has all the attributes a quality goalkeeper needs.”
