Highlights: Jordan Poole’s 19-point party vs. Timberwolves

So far this preseason, Jordan Poole is showing why the Golden State Warriors selected him No. 28 overall in the 2019 NBA Draft. More importantly, he is showing how quickly he is acclimating to the Warriors’ offense, which should come as welcome relief to Stephen Curry.

In Golden State’s second preseason game, Michigan product splashed his way to a mini Poole party. No, it wasn’t the 40 points in 25 minutes Stephen Curry put together. But his 19 points in 21 minutes — 6-of-12 field-goal shooting (50%) and 3-of-7 from 3-point range (42.9%) are impressive nonetheless.

Poole also made four of five of his free throws (80%).

But what might excite the Warriors most are his contributions to playmaking and defending. The box score shows some of it: three rebounds, one steal and one block. What the box score doesn’t show his eagle-eyed court vision, or his smart passing and or his ability to knock down shots, hesitation-free, that many NBA veterans would miss.

Most excellent? Poole really seems to be enjoying himself out there.

Poole and the rest of the Warriors head to Los Angeles for two preseason contests against the Lakers (Monday, Oct. 14, and Wednesday, Oct. 16) before concluding the preseason at home — also against the Lakers (!!!) — on Friday, Oct. 18.

The Warriors open their 2019-20 regular season at home on Oct. 24, against the Clippers.
