CHICAGO _ David Ross held his first press conference as the Cubs new manager.
"There are many ways to get experience," said Ross, who has never managed before. "But I'm ready for this. ... I know what winning looks like.
Ross, 42, agreed to a three-year contract last week.
He is the fourth manager Theo Epstein has hired in his eight years as Cubs president.
"We believe David truly has special gifts," Epstein said. "When we began this search, it was clear to us we were looking for somebody who would take a very proactive approach to leadership. Somebody who would take it as a personal mission to create a winning environment around this clubhouse and in this organization. And somebody with natural gifts to lead players and lead an organization.
"David has always been very aware of the ingredients, all the little things, that are necessary to create a winning environment."
