It was not a return to England to remember for former Chelsea star Diego Costa as he played against Liverpool for Atletico Madrid.
The forward was back on English shores as he led the line for Atletico Madrid in the second leg of the Champions League last 16 tie with Liverpool.
The Spanish side led 1-0 from the first leg, but Costa and his team-mates struggled to have an impact at Anfield as Liverpool looked to overturn the deficit, with Georginio Wijnaldum scoring in the first half to bring the tie level on aggregate.
Costa barely had a chance in front of goal as he endured a night to forget, despite winding up the Liverpool fans early on in the game.
His frustration was compounded by being substituted early in the second half, with Costa showing his displeasure as he kicked a bunch of water bottles as he made his way to the bench, while being jeered by Liverpool fans.
And Reds supporters were delighted to see the former Chelsea man taken off by Atletico boss Diego Simeone with the tie still in the balance.

Costa scored 59 goals in 120 appearances for Chelsea in all competitions, winning the Premier League title on two occasions and also lifting the League Cup in 2015.
Prior to his transfer to west London he was a key member of the Atletico side that overcame Barcelona and Real Madrid to win the La Liga title in 2014 against all the odds.
He returned to Atletico in 2018, after a fallout with the then-Chelsea manager Antonio Conte.
