A HIGHAND teacher has been struck off the teaching register for supplying exam answers to pupils and editing their course work before submitting it under their name.
Paul Herbert, a computer science teacher at Invergordon Academy, was found to have breached SQA requirements several times over a four year period.
He admitted to the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) he supplied answers to the Higher exam in 2022, and edited students' work before submitting them as their own work.
In 2019, he also gave a preliminary exam “consisting of constructs he knew would appear in the Higher Computing Science live assessment”.
He supplied the answers to tasks within the exam before and/or during the exam.
He also admitted to "misleading" senior bosses and to have "disrupted" the investigation into "dishonest" behaviour.
According to the GTCS, between June 7, 2022, and April 24, 2023, he “failed to provide a truthful account to senior leaders” on his “dishonest” behaviour.
Investigators added that Herbert “sought to mislead his senior leaders and disrupt their investigation”.
The GTCS concluded the “teacher’s fitness to teach is impaired” and “he is unfit to teach.”
His name has now been removed from the register.
Herbert will be prohibited from applying for restoration to the GTCS Register for two years.
