Highest and lowest paid jobs in the past year - see if yours is on the list

Legal professionals, chief executives and air traffic controllers were some of the highest earners if the past year, according to a government study.

It's no surprise that company bosses took the top spot, with a typical salary of £156,209.

Air traffic controllers came in at number two, with a typical salary of £93,995 followed closely by marketing and sales directors who are earning around £93,372.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) released the data as part of its Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings.

The research found that business bosses were typically earning 4 per cent more than they were last year.

In April, managers, directors and senior officials were the occupation group with the highest median weekly earnings, of £862 - £278 higher than the UK as a whole.

Meanwhile, people working in hospitality earn the least, with bar staff, waitressing and kitchen and catering assistants being the top three positions on the lowest-paying jobs list.

The ONS data used pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) tax records on a random sample of one per cent of workers to get an idea of how much different groups of employees earn.
