High turnouts so far in Renfrewshire election as voters wait for results

High turnouts have been confirmed for two Renfrewshire constituencies as voters sit tight for results to be announced.

In Paisley, a total of 35, 108 votes were cast in the constituency vote while 35,171 ballots were collected in that area for the West Scotland regional list vote.

This equals a turnout of 62.6 per cent - more than five per cent higher than in 2016.

Meanwhile in the Renfrewshire North and West seat, 67.9 per cent of voters turned up at the ballot box, with 38,367 votes cast in the constituency vote and 38,434 in the list vote.

But despite more voters making their voices heard across the areas, Renfrewshire South candidate Derek Stillie said on social media he still did not believe enough people were getting involved with the election.

He said on Twitter: "We must in future get more people in Scotland to engage with these elections to the same extent they do with UK-wide elections."
