High Street fire: police wish to speak to man in connection with blaze near historic pub

Police have released CCTV images of a man they wish to speak to in connection with a blaze which destroyed the Old College Bar.

A major fire ripped through the building on the historic High Street at around 1.30am on Tuesday, 4 May, with more than 40 firefighters, seven fire engines and two height appliance in attendance at the scene. It has since been demolished.

The man is described as white, of a slim to medium build, wearing a blue and grey checked shirt, blue jeans and white flat-soled training shoes. He had a maroon coloured piece of clothing around his head and part of his face. He was carrying orange plastic bags.

Detective Constable Neil Bonsor, Greater Glasgow CID, said: “As part of the investigation, we are eager to identify the man in the CCTV footage and would urge him, or anyone who recognises him, to get in touch with police.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact CID at City Centre Police office via 101, quoting incident number 0119 of 4 May. Alternatively, Crimestoppers can be called anonymously on 0800 555 111.
