High-street fashion chains Oasis and Warehouse collapse into administration putting 2,300 jobs at risk

High-street fashion chains Oasis and Warehouse have collapsed into administration putting 2,300 jobs at risk.

The brands have 92 branches and 437 concessions across the UK.

In Greater Manchester, the brands have shops in both the Arndale Centre and the Trafford Centre.

Concessions can also be found in House of Fraser and John Lewis stores across the region.

Accountancy firm Deloitte is set to handle the insolvency process after the coronavirus lockdown forced them to shut their stores.

The company, which is owned by the failed Icelandic bank Kaupthing, started discussions with potential buyers three weeks ago.

Under current guidelines, furloughed staff at insolvent firms can be paid by the Government's job retention scheme, meaning around 1,800 workers will continue to be paid until at least the end of June.

However, 202 members of staff have been laid off with immediate effect following today's announcement.

Stores and concessions outside of the UK will continue to trade as normal.

This news comes just days after Britain's oldest department store Debenhams announced it had crashed into administration - with no plans to open its stores in Ireland after the lockdown period ends.
