High street chains slash prices online in a bid to shift stock during lockdown

High street retailers have been hit hard by the Coronavirus lockdown.

Closing of physical shops has meant many well known retailers have been pushed to the brink. Laura Ashley, Carluccios, Debenhams, Oasis and Warehouse have already collapsed into administration.

A worrying report has also signalled that half of Britain's high street chains could enter administration by the end of summer if lockdown continues and cashflow remains tight.

Many retailers still afloat are slashing prices of non-essential goods online in a bid to encourage shoppers to spend.

With everyone from tech giant Currys PC World to John Lewis and fashion staples like Topshop rolling out deep seasonal discounts on goods.

Below are just some of the incredible savings consumers can make on everything from tech accessories and home electricals to fashion and beauty items.

H&M

There are discounts of up to 70% off at H&M online (Getty Images)

Shoppers can pick up discounts of up to 70% off in the H&M sale right now online.

Many loungewear items across men's and womenswear are now under £10, kidswear items start from £2 and home accessories have been slashed to as little as £3.

Topshop

High street fashion giant has launched 30% off selected spring collections, with an additional 20% off for all students with valid NUS, UniDays or Student Beans accounts.

The retailer has also extended its returns policy to 45 days of receipt and done away with express delivery options due to strict social distancing measures at its warehouse.

New Look

Another high street chain slashing prices online is New Look. The fashion retailer is currently offering 25% off men's and womenswear until Sunday.

The chain is also offering a 25% off Blue Light and Defence Service for NHS and front line staff during the coronavirus.

All customers can also get free delivery when spending over £25 and has extended returns to 90 days.

House of Fraser

Department store House of fraser is offering shoppers 30% off across all departments including fashion.

Dresses start from £7, while sportswear and loungwear items are priced from £5.49. Shoppers have the added bonus of free delivery if they spend over £75.

Arket

Scandi high street fave Arket is also on sale right now. The fashion forward brand has slashed most items to half price, including these chic wide leg organic cotton jeans now £35 and this colourful Flouncy Floral Ruffled Dress now £24.

Upmarket department store John Lewis has also rolled out discounts across its departments online.

Shoppers can save half price on fashion items, 20% off selected home and furniture and 30% off menswear.

Returns have been extended for any purchases made from 18 February for up to 35 days after shops reopen. Shoppers can also still click and collect items from their nearest Waitrose & Partners or Co-op store.

Argos

All standalone Argos stores are now temporarily closed due to the pandemic, but you can still visit one that's inside a Sainsbury's store.

Online there are plenty of clearance deals available across home, electricals, tech and toys.

Bargains include a Rapoo 8200M Wireless Multi-Mode Mouse and Keyboard set for £15.99, reduced from £29.99 and a Stylfile Gel Polish Remover Kit for £11.99 that was originally £20.

Currys

Tech giant Currys launched Easter deals across a wide range of tech and electrical items, with up to 40% off.

Top discounts include the Huawei MediaPad T3 10 for £89 (was £110) and £50 off the Dyson Pure Cool Me Air Purifier, now £249.

The and NOW TV Smart Stick with one month Cinema, Entertainment & Sports Pass is also in the sale for £19.99 - a saving of £10 for shoppers who need some extra home entertainment during lockdown.

Marks and Spencer

While the M&S midseason sale for fashion items has finished online. The popular high street store rolled out spend and save discounts on selected home and furniture items.

Shoppers can get up to 25% off selected furniture items by spending between £299 and £1499.
