High street chain set to close unless buyer is found

A major fashion chain could be set to close down soon if a buyer is not found.

A rescue deal for the high street retailer Quiz has so far not emerged after it went into administration in February.

Interpath, brought in as administrators, said it will review whether its 40 stores will remain open if there are no buyers found by the end of April. Currently, all of Quiz’s 40 stores will remain open until the end of the month, Retail Week reported.

The outlet also reported a source that said further store closures, job cuts, or even winding up the business may need to be considered.

Clearance sales with discounts between 40 per cent and 70 per cent are currently being held.

Interpath’s head in Scotland, Alistair McAlinden, said earlier this year that the fall into administration indicated a "rough start to 2026 for the UK high street”.

He said: “It’s our intention to continue to trade all stores and the concessions in Ireland as a going concern for as long as we can while we assess options for the business.”

Geoff Jacobs, managing director at Interpath and the joint administrator with Mr McAlinden, said: “Any parties with an interest in acquiring the stock, store operations and infrastructure of Quiz should contact us as a matter of urgency.

“We are ensuring that those employees impacted by redundancy are provided with all available support at this difficult time.”

In February, there were 109 redundancies across Quiz’s head office in Glasgow and its warehouse and distribution centre in Bellshill, Lanarkshire.

The company employed 565 workers in total, it was reported at the time.

Sales over the “crucial” Christmas period had been lower than expected following a tough 2025 in which Quiz had fallen into administration in February that year.

It was rescued by a so-called pre-pack deal by a subsidiary of the Ramzan family known as Orion.

The deal then saw Orion buy assets, including the brand and 42 shops. A total of 23 stores were shut, with 200 jobs affected.

There are currently no Quiz stores in London, with the nearest in Watford and Grays. The Quiz store in Romford closed down earlier this year.
