High street bank branch forced to close over staff coronavirus outbreak

A high street bank in Bolton has been temporarily closed down following a positive coronavirus case.

A number of members of staff at the branch, on Market Street, in Westhoughton, have had to go into self-isolation after one of their colleagues tested positive for Covid-19.

Bolton still has the highest rate of new infections in Greater Manchester and the fifth highest in the UK, with 231.6 cases for every 100,000 people over the last week.

A spokesman for Lloyds Bank said staff are following government rules but that the Westhoughton branch would reopen as soon as possible.

“We have temporarily closed the Lloyds Westhoughton branch in Bolton after a colleague was diagnosed with Covid-19," they said.

"Our priority is the wellbeing of our colleagues and customers and we continue to follow government guidance.

"As a number of our colleagues are now self-isolating we’re unable to open the branch, but we’ll reopen as soon as we can.”

Lloyds is one of a limited number of bank branches available on Westhoughton's main high street.

The borough has consistently recorded relatively few new cases of Covid-19 in comparison to the rest of Bolton.
