
Police are on the hunt for a motorist after a high speed pursuit through multiple Maitland suburbs ended without an arrest early on Thursday morning.
Port Stephens-Hunter police were patrolling the East Maitland area just before 1am when they spotted a white Nissan Navara which was believed to have been stolen earlier in the morning.
Police tried to stop the vehicle but a pursuit was initiated.
Officers chased the car through numerous suburbs including East Maitland, Maitland, Rutherford, Telarah, Metford and Tenambit - reaching speeds of up to 140km/h.
But police could not stop the vehicle and the pursuit was called off about 1.30am.
Police found the vehicle abandoned a short time later near Logan Road, Rutherford.
A perimeter was established around the scene however the driver could not be located.
Inquiries into the matter are continuing. Any information that may assist police should be reported to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
