High speed police chase ends in crash but driver runs off leaving injured passenger behind

A high speed police chase in Aberdeen ended in a horror crash before the driver legged it leaving an injured passenger behind.

Police have launched a manhunt after the smash happened at the roundabout junction of Victoria Street and Riverview Drive at around 3.30pm on Sunday, September 19.

A car failed to stop when signalled to by police on the A947 Aberdeen to Old Meldrum road.

After the crash, ambulance crews were called and a 56-year-old woman - who was a rear seat passenger - was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Police have been unable to locate the driver and they are appealing for information.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.30pm on Sunday, 19 September, a car failed to stop when signalled to by police on the A947 Aberdeen to Old Meldrum road.

“Officers pursued the vehicle which subsequently crashed at the roundabout junction of Victoria Street and Riverview Drive.

“Emergency services attended and a 56-year-old woman, a rear seat passenger, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

“Enquires are ongoing to trace the driver of the vehicle and anyone with any information should contact Police via 101, quoting incident number 2726 of Sunday, September 19, 2021.”
