High schools battle it out in West Lothian for Lego League title

High schools from across Scotland battled it out at West Lothian College for the FIRST LEGO League title.

Eight high schools took part in the event which is an international robotics competition for children aged between nine and 16 with the aim of encouraging young people to gain an interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) though a fun and exciting learning experience.

Bathgate Academy had the shortest distance to travel as they competed against Clifton Hall, Drummond High School, Dunblane High School, High School of Glasgow, Irvine Royal Academy, St Ambrose High School and Stonelaw High School.

The teams comprised of up to 10 members with the aim of working together build and program robots using Lego Mindstorms technology to complete a set of missions on a themed playing field. The competition is divided into three parts: the robot game, the project, and the core values.

In the robot game, teams program their robots to autonomously complete missions on the playing field. The project involves identifying a problem related to the competition theme and proposing a solution to it while the core values include teamwork, professionalism, and good sportsmanship.
