High-school students in Bordeaux flee from tear gas thrown by police at protest against education reforms

Dramatic images show high school students in Bordeaux running away from tear gas during a protest against the government’s education reforms.

Photos from the French town show high school students blocking a road on Monday morning.

The students come from three schools in the city and are protesting against the reform of high schools.

Around 150 to 200 students are taking part in the demonstrations.

According to local media, six people have been arrested, mainly for throwing objects at police officers.

One passerby was injured.

It comes after around 136,000 anti-government protesters took to the streets of France over the weekend in protests over the high cost of living and rising taxes.

Bordeaux was one of several cities where protests were held.

On Saturday the walls of the city’s cathedrals were spray painted with the slogan “Macron resign.”

According to Sudouest.fr, two people were arrested and six people were wounded, including a police officer.

Around 300 tear gas bombs were fired.

On Monday, it was revealed that France's prime minister Edouard Philippe has been instructed by President Macron to meet with protest groups and opposition parties this week.

Mr Macron held an emergency meeting with Mr Philippe on Sunday and has not ruled out the possibility of imposing a state of emergency.

More anti-government protests have taken place in Paris on Monday.

Ambulance workers took to the streets and gathered close to the National Assembly in the downtown area of the capital to complain about changes to working conditions.

Protesters set tyres on fire and blocked traffic.
