High school reveals plans for a new ‘dance and drama’ block with three other buildings to be demolished

A high school has unveiled plans for a new, modern drama and dance building at its site.

Three other buildings elsewhere on the Harper Green School, Farnworth, will demolished as part of the work.

The school says ‘special pride is taken in the drama complex and theatre’, with a new arts pod ]containing a drama studio and two art rooms previously built

A design and access statement in support of the plans said: “The application seeks approval for 544sq.m of gross internal floor area over two storeys.

“It will be located centrally within the existing school campus and positioned across the existing glazed covered walkway linking the upper and lower sections of the school campus.

“In addition to this new build it is proposed that three old modular classroom units are to be removed in the north-east corner of the site.”

The school is based off Harper Green Road and is part of Leverhulme Academy Church Of England And Community Trust, who also run Rivington and Blackrod School.

The statement, adds: “The new accommodation is to replace old building stock which has come to the end of their useful life.

“No additional staff are to be employed as a result of this application and so both pupil and staff numbers will be as existing.”

The proposed building will be mostly built off-site to avoid disruption with 14 individual modules fabricated and then installed and arranged on site.

Neighbours on Plodder Lane, Harper Green Road and Dixon Green Drive are to be consulted on the plans.

Planners at Bolton Council will now decide on whether to grant the proposals in the coming weeks.
