Following the success of Only Murders in the Building, Disney ventured further into crime comedy with High Potential. Adapted from the French series Haut Potentiel Intellectuel (HPI), the show stars Kaitlin Olson as Morgan, a mom who ends up becoming a consultant on crime cases for the police.

Following its release on Disney+, High Potential has gone on to become a breakout hit, so much so that it easily scored a season 2 renewal. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting the programme's sophomore return.

High Potential Season 2 Release Date and Cast

For Disney, High Potential has been a consistent top performer with the crime series becoming the most-streamed series among viewers ages 18 to 49. In fact, the show's first season drew in over four million viewers, significantly pulling ahead against its main competition, the CBS crime series Tracker.

Following its successful first season, Disney has announced that High Potential Season 2 will start airing on September 1. And while it's unclear how many episodes the new season would have, it's likely that High Potential will return with 13 episodes, just like when the show debuted.

As for the cast, Olson is definitely returning to the show to reprise the lead role. It is also worth noting that the Emmy-nominated star also serves as a producer on High Potential.

At the same time, several of Olson's co-stars are also returning for the new season. These include Daniel Sunjata (who plays Morgan's detective partner, Adam), Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Judy Revyes, and Taran Killam. At the same time, young stars Amirah J and Matthew Lamb are also returning to play Olson's onscreen children.

Meanwhile, aside from the main cast, Mekhi Phifer has also signed on to join High Potential in a recurring guest role. While details about Phifer's character are being kept under wraps, a report from Variety reveals that the ER star plays a character who ends up getting involved with the major crimes unit and presumably, Morgan.

Is High Potential Coming To Netflix?

At present, it doesn't look like High Potential would be streaming on Netflix anytime in the future. Back in 2004, it was also announced in a press statement that the crime comedy series would be streaming 'exclusively' on Disney+ in both the UK and Ireland. And when the show returns for its sophomore season, it is believed that the status quo will remain.

It is also worth noting that High Potential is produced by 20th Television, so the show is likely to remain exclusive to Disney+ moving forward. That said, Disney could later choose to make High Potential and some of its other shows available on Netflix later on.

After all, the ABC hit, Shonda Rhimes' Scandal has made its way to Netflix US recently . Before that, Rhime's other hit ABC show, How To Get Away With Murder, was streaming on Netflix before all its six seasons left the streamer in December 2024. So perhaps it can happen, but Disney is most likely to keep its latest hit show to itself for now.
