High-flying Neilston held to a draw as Wishaw boss hails his side's 'fighting spirit'

Wishaw boss David Dunn hailed his side’s fighting spirit as they twice came from behind to hold high-flying Neilston in West of Scotland League Conference C.

Olly Smith struck twice for third-place Neilston either side of Kieran Campbell’s goal for Wishaw, before John Cunningham made it 2-2.

That kept up the Beltane Park side’s fine run under Dunn, who is unbeaten in six of his seven games so far, and the boss said: “It was a good point after showing good fighting spirit to get back in the game. The boys went all the way to the death and a point was well-deserved.

“There wasn’t much in the game for me. We gifted them two goals. The first goal we tried to use a high line and play them offside but it was never offside. The second one we switched off and let them in behind us.

Dunn says the result was well deserved as his side fought to the end (Wishaw Juniors)

”It’s these wee things that are stopping us getting to the next level, so if we can cut out the individual errors and the mistakes we are a good side.

"I’ve got a lot of confidence in this group of players.”

Wishaw, who are sixth in the table, are now out of action for three weeks with their next scheduled fixture not until March 26 at home to Ardrossan.

Dunn added: “We been quite lucky to get a lot of games played, but there’s a few games still to play. There’s just three games left for us so we’ll give the boys a bit of time off this week.”
