High-end hotel group Soho House to build a new motel and diner near Cribbs Causeway

A high-end motel and diner is being built on the outskirts of Bristol.

Headed up private members' club Soho House, whose continent-spanning portfolio includes stylish restaurants and hotels such as Somerset's Babington House, the mixed-use scheme will include a 123-bedroom hotel and 118-cover restaurant with a drive thru.

It will be built in place of the Cribbs Lodge Hotel, near to The Mall at Cribbs Causeway, which has recently been demolished so that work can begin on the premium chain's latest venture.

There will also be a total of 137 on-site parking spaces, including seven electric vehicle charging points.

Soho House recently opened a motel and diner in Buckland, Oxfordshire, named Mollie's Diner, which was covered by national media, giving people an idea of what the South Gloucestershire site could look like once completed.

The menu at Mollie's Diner includes light bites such as cheesy nachos, prawn cocktail and chicken bites all priced at £6; burgers and hot dogs ranging from £7 to £10; grilled goods including salmon fillets and steaks; all-day breakfasts including a Full English for £9 and more.

According to The Guardian, it feels 'a million miles from a petrol forecourt' with glass cabinets filled with Hershey’s chocolate and popcorn, shelves of design books, objets d’art and plants, and Scandi-style chairs.

It costs £75 per night for a standard room which includes Egyptian cotton sheets, a rainforest shower, super fast wi-fi, a television and a king-size bed.

There is now only a mound of rubble where Cribbs Lodge Hotel was, but it is not known when work begin on building the new motel and diner.

South Gloucestershire Council approved the plans in October 2017 on the grounds that work will begin within three years of the approval date, and that on-site working can only take place between 7.30am - 6pm between Monday and Friday and 8am - 1pm on Saturdays, with no work permitted on Sundays and bank holidays.

Work must also be in keeping with the South Gloucestershire Local Plan, which means nearby trees and hedges must be protected.

A spokesperson for Soho House said they have no information to share on the development yet.
