High-cost resale of sanitizers to be banned in Japan

The reselling of alcohol-based sanitizers, used to combat the new coronavirus, at a high price will be banned starting next week, the government said. This will be done in accordance with the Law on Emergency Measures for Stabilizing Living Conditions of the Public, said Health, Labor and Welfare minister Katsunobu Kato at a press conference on Tuesday.

There has been a problem of people reselling alcohol-based sanitizers online at a hefty price.

The government intends to amend the relevant government ordinance to forbid the high-price resale of both medical and nonmedical alcohol-based sanitizers, as well as high-proof alcoholic drinks and antibacterial wet wipes. Violators will face possible imprisonment of up to one year or pay a fine of up to 1,000,000 yen.
