High Blantyre Primary and Friends of the Calder enjoy RSPB's Big Bird Watch

Nature lovers from High Blantyre Primary teamed up with community group Friends of the Calder for a spot of ‘twitching’ recently.

The pupils from three classes, staff and Friends of the Calder volunteers had a lovely afternoon doing some bird spotting for the RSPB’s Big Bird Watch down the Calder.

A Friends of the Calder spokesperson said: “We had a great afternoon twitching, even if the children were a tad noisy at times!

“We spotted two ducks which quickly hid away as over 40 children descended on the river’s edge. They were certainly enthusiastic.

“With bags of energy, the kids also set about doing a nature’s eye spy exercise. It was loads of fun!”
