Higgins' alleged rapist pleads not guilty

The man accused of raping then-Liberal staffer Brittany Higgins in a federal minister's office is set to stand trial after pleading not guilty.

Bruce Lehrmann is charged with sexual intercourse without consent at Parliament House on March 23, 2019.

Acting for Lehrmann, Warwick Korn told the ACT Magistrates Court on Thursday he was instructed to enter a plea of not guilty.

ACT Director of Public Prosecutions Shane Drumgold SC asked for a four-week adjournment.

The case is due to return to court on October 14.

Lehrmann is then expected to be committed to the Supreme Court for trial.

Ms Higgins went public in February alleging a then-unnamed colleague raped her in the office of minister Linda Reynolds.

Lehrmann is currently in Queensland and did not appear in court on the video link.
