'Hiding behind a lie' - Everton players slammed as Rafa Benitez told he is not to blame

Gabriel Agbonlahor has described Everton as ‘very poor’ and lacking a style of play after their latest defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace.

The Blues lost 3-1 at Selhurst Park on Sunday to leave them 14th in the Premier League table, with just one win in their last 10 games.

Rafael Benitez’s side were architects of their own downfall, needlessly giving the ball away for two of Palace’s goals.

Their sloppy play lead to Benitez admit after the game his side ‘are not amazing in possession’.

ADAM JONES: What Everton fans did should concern Rafa Benitez more than Richarlison reaction

Former Aston Villa striker Agbonlahor concurred with the Spaniard’s analysis and claims Everton are in ‘big trouble’ this season.

“There’s no point hiding behind a lie, Everton are very poor and don’t have a style of play. He told Football Insider .

“They look like they need a bit of brilliance from Demarai Gray to get a goal.

“It’s going to get harder and harder for them, there’s no easy game in the Premier League. They are in for a tough rest of the season.

“Other players aren’t turning up. Everton are in big trouble. Benitez will know that.

“They need Dominic Calvert-Lewin back as soon as possible. It’s going to be a long season.

“If players can’t keep the ball, you can’t coach players technically to keep the ball.

"The formation they played against Palace should be one where you can keep the ball. If the players can’t do that, a manager can’t help them.

“It’s the player’s fault, not the manager’s fault.”

Next up for Everton is a daunting trip to title chasing Chelsea on Thursday evening.
